چکیده

Introduction Soil organic carbon (SOC) dynamic is one of the important factors that directly influence soil properties and quality. In agro-ecosystems, SOC dynamics are strongly linked to agricultural management practices. Methods this study, we investigated response its fractions various combination practices based on measurements obtained from an experiment conducted over four growing seasons 2018 2020 in Ahvaz, Iran. The experimental treatments involved three strategies combined with crop rotation systems. comprised conventional (CON: mineral fertilizer, removal all residues), (ORG: 30% return residues soil), integrated (INT: mineral/organic 15% residues) strategies. systems were: fallow-wheat (F-W), corn-wheat (C-W), sesame-wheat (S-W), mung bean-wheat (B-W). samples were collected SOC, labile-C, non-labile-C measured. Results discussion After two years experiment, no significant improvement was found CON strategy ( p ≤ 0.05). ORG INT contained average 1.1 1.06 times more than strategy, respectively. value labile-C decreased during summer cultivations increased after winter cultivations. However, although quantity (2 g kg −1 ) higher (1.83 (1.87 overall time, second cultivation despite gradual accumulation matter due high levels temperature humidity, content reduced to1.47 . strategies, according following descending order B-W (5.7 > C-W (5.29 S-W (5.23 F-W (4.52 ). Therefore, for region M-W recommended addition (which most common system). beneficial C-sequestration when inorganic fertilization residue incorporation. This study gives promising results implementing under long-term cropping containing crops wheat improving semi-arid regions

Soil Organic Carbon Content and Stocks in Relation to Grazing Management in Semi-Arid Grasslands of Kenya

Rangelands cover approximately 85% of Kenya’s land mass and is a major resource for livestock farming with a considerable potential to mitigate climate change, yet these lands are stressed differently by various management. Our study aimed at determining the influence of grazing management systems (rotational, continuous and ungrazed) on soil organic carbon stocks in Yoani ranch located in the ...

Short-term soil carbon dynamics of humic fractions in low-input and organic cropping systems

Observing changes in soil organic matter (SOM) is a fundamental part of defining the carbon cycle in natural and cultivated environments. However, relying on changes in the mass of soil C over short periods often produces conflicting results because of errors associated with sampling and analysis. In addition, C mass balance studies provide little interpretation of processes or turnover of spec...

Earthworm populations in relation to soil organic matter dynamics and management in California tomato cropping systems

Earthworms are key regulators of soil structure and soil organic matter (SOM) dynamics in many agroecosystems. They are greatly impacted by agricultural management, yet little is known about how these factors interact to control SOM dynamics. This study sought to explore linkages between agricultural management, earthworms and aggregate associated SOM dynamics through a survey of tomato (Solanu...

Management of Dryland Cropping Systems in the U.S. Great Plains: Effects on Soil Organic Carbon

The expansion and intensification of agroecosystems worldwide has significantly affected the environment at multiple spatial scales (Matson et al., 1997). Agroecosystem effects on atmospheric constituents have altered local, regional, and global environmental quality through windblown soil (Zhang et al., 2001) and emission of particulate matter, reactive N (e.g., NH3 and NOx), volatile organic ...

Studying Short-Time Dynamics of Vegetation and Soil Organic Carbon in a Semi-arid Rangeland (Case Study: Zharf, Khorasan Province, Iran)

Abstract. Rangeland vegetation dynamics encompass all processes of changes in vegetation composition and structure over time. Investigating the rangeland ecosystem dynamics makes it possible to determine the effects of climatic and management conditions on qualitative and quantitative changes of the vegetation in a specific period of time. Accordingly, data collection and measurements for evalu...
